Previously marked by known stages that moved in a predictable fashion from first meeting to dating to eventual monogamous relationship which would produce off spring. In the modern world progression of interactions is less defined and in some cases be escalated to final stages without any delays.

 Flag -The term flag originates from dating sims and romance visual novels. In these games, when you are presented with choices which affect how the other characters view you and potentially change which route you go on, it’s called a flag. “Raising a character’s flags” essentially means that you make choices that improve your standing with that character and which are more likely to put you on his/her route. In the context of this blog this term means triggering the right set of events to get the desired outcome from the person you wish to court.

GSSS – Gender Specific Sexual Strategy is the strategy used by a gender in mate selection to increase their chance of reproduction and decrease negative outcomes.

Selection criteria – The set of attributes that one looks for when seeking out a potential mate through online dating.

Swiping Right – A gesture in the popular dating app Tinder, when on a users profile you can choose to swipe right to signal that you are interested in them.

Swiping Left – A gesture in the popular dating app Tinder, when on a users profile you can choose to swipe left to signal that you are not interested in them.

Sexual Market Value – The value you receive from the opposite gender for what your perceived level of genetic and societal contribution towards producing successful offspring is. i.e, He’s handsome, rich and nice. Or she is a virgin, young and innocent.

Sexual programming -The innate genetic protocol that spurs all life to reproduce – which is marked by a sudden interest in the opposite sex and an interest to participate in the courtship process of the species.
